Non-Chinese Student Supporting

Learning Support

  1. Learning groups of no more than 6 people are specially set up to allow teachers to arrange Chinese learning activities according to students' individual abilities and interests, thereby improving learning outcomes.
  2. We create specific teaching materials and aids based on students' learning needs to help them understand the learning content.
  3. Adjust your learning pace, starting from the basics and gradually progressing to more advanced topics.
  4. By uploading school-based learning content through electronic devices, students can learn independently, reduce learning pressure, and increase their interest in learning Chinese.
  5. Provide homework guidance to students。
Parents' Support
  1. Explain homework and announcements to parents to facilitate their monitoring of their children's learning.
  2. Organize training activities for parents, such as parent workshops and lectures.
  3. Hold regular parent meetings with on-site interpreters to break down language barriers and help parents understand their children's learning progress.

Teacher Training

Teachers are arranged to participate in the "Teaching and Learning for Non-Chinese-Speaking Children – Professional Development Course for Kindergarten Teachers," jointly organized by the University of Hong Kong and the Education Bureau. This course equips teachers with the professional skills and knowledge to support the learning needs of non-Chinese-speaking children, enabling them to develop teaching content tailored to their needs and improve teaching effectiveness.

Community Services

The "Inclusion – Ethnic Minority Support Service Centre" (CHEER) provides convenient interpretation and translation services and diverse activities for all ethnic minorities in Hong Kong.

Special Education Needs Supporting

This program involves educational psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists, senior special needs early childhood workers, and special needs early childhood staff providing training activities in schools, either individually or in small groups, for eligible students.

In addition, this service program will also provide parent lectures, workshops and counseling for parents and caregivers.

  • Child and toddler protection as the core.
  • Strengthen parent engagement and enhance parent-child relationships.
  • Enhance support for children and their parents (especially specific groups)*.
  • Support teachers, promote home-school collaboration, and create a high-quality learning environment.
  • Utilize community resources to help children and their families integrate into the community.
 
Service Content
 
  • Provide case counseling and referral services to address parent-child discipline, adjustment difficulties, emotional counseling, and learning difficulties, and refer to other professional services or community resources as needed.
  • Parenting education support services, providing various parenting education programs, parent groups, lectures, workshops, and parent-child activities.
  • School-based social workers are stationed at the school two days a week, and also provide support outside of school hours, offering parents professional consultation and direct contact time. Social workers proactively contact parents (by phone/in person) to understand the needs of students and families.
  • Crisis management and intervention, such as assisting in handling various related cases, providing emotional support for teachers/parents, parent briefings, life education and growth classes, etc.
  • Teacher support services, providing individual counseling/councilions for school teachers, teacher training lectures, etc.
